Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation

Introduction

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) are important for development organizations in order to assess the results achieved with respect to the set targets.  Firstly, by monitoring the development of the project, the organization can easily understand whether strategic changes need to be made and act accordingly. Secondly, M&E are relevant to donors who need to assess whether the NGO is a reliable partner. Thus, to develop a strong M&E plan is of vital importance. Drawing up a Project Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) system will help organizations to think about how they can implement program efficiently.

The PME course intends to promote a broad understanding on monitoring and evaluation and its relevance in the context of project management and implementation.  The key objective is to enhance the ability and skills to build a project or program design and a monitoring and evaluation framework. More specifically, the course seeks to develop and utilize appropriate indicators for measuring project or program goals, mapping outcomes, outputs, and effectiveness. Further, the course would help in understanding quantitative and qualitative data collection methods and the ability to use them in project or program monitoring and evaluation.  Importantly, it would provide necessary skills to write reports and recommendations in the context of project monitoring and evaluation.
